PEC Update, August 1, 2007 Dear PEC Supporters: Yesterday we received notification that a three-justice panel of the Supreme Court of Virginia denied the Petition for Appeal in the student contract case. We are disappointed that the panel denied the Petition. We believe that the students who brought this suit absolutely deserve their day in court. We believe that their case is meritorious. We believe that the college is not delivering the education it promised to the women of R-MWC, who were sold on the special benefits of an education that could only be obtained at a woman's college. Thus, we also believe that it is critical that PEC continue to fight for these students until everything possible has been done to demand that they receive the educational experience they signed up for. The final option for the student plaintiffs in the contract case is to file a Petition for Rehearing, which will be considered by the full Court (all seven current Justices) without oral argument. Once the Petition for Rehearing is filed, we will let you know and make it available on the PEC website. The charitable trust suit is still pending appeal and will be heard by a three-justice panel, we believe, in September, although no hearing date has yet been announced. We will continue to keep you informed of any further action in the contract case and the progress of the charitable trust appeal.
