PEC Update, January 17, 2007 Dear PEC Supporters: As you may already know from our January 12 update, one outcome of the summit meeting in Richmond was a mandate for PEC to communicate with all alumnae about the opposition to the strategic plan. Unfortunately, there are still too many alumnae who do not know that there is any opposition to the plan or that there are valid reasons to question the direction the college is taking. Therefore, an information packet is being mailed and emailed to all R-MWC alumnae by volunteers this week. A PDF of the packet can be found on our website at http://www.preserveeducationalchoice.org/PEC_Information_Packet_1-16-2007.pdf (there is also a link from the PEC homepage). The packet consists of a two-page letter that summarizes the fight to preserve R-MWC to date, the lawsuits, and the Lynchburg Rally on January 23rd, a one-page teaser for the "20 Reasons" document, and a four-page bulleted list of information that provides research to refute many of the arguments in the College's various mailings to alumnae. Although this package will be mailed and emailed to thousands of alumnae this week, we ask that each of you pass the information along to all of the people in your R-MWC network as well. The contact information that you have for your friends is far more accurate (and your email less subject to spam filters) and the added weight of someone known and trusted passing along the information cannot be measured. Thank you for your help in this effort to inform all alumnae about the ongoing opposition to the strategic plan. We'd also like to let you know that plans are firming up for the Lynchburg hearings on January 23rd. There will be a short rally at 2:00 p.m. in front of the courthouse to show the Judge, press, and the R-MWC Board of Trustees that there is still strong opposition to the plan from alumnae, students, and friends of R-MWC. The hearings will run from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. (no guarantees on the length, but this is likely). During the hearings some PEC Board Members will be in the fellowship hall of the First Unitarian Church to answer questions and work with small groups. Wyatt Durrette and the other attorneys will debrief all of us on the hearings at 6:00 p.m. Given the limited space of the fellowship hall and the courtroom it is important for us to know who will be able to come to Lynchburg on the 23rd for all or some of the day. Please do RSVP to gail@preserveeducationalchoice.org as soon as you can if you are coming. Directions to the fellowship hall, parking, and a map of downtown Lynchburg can be found at this link http://www.uulynchburg.org/Facilities.html. For info on lodging and other details please see the January 12 PEC update. Again, our thanks to you all and we hope to see each of you on January 23!
